Colony/Bench

Hollow-Core Doors, Wood Glue

2014

Colony/Bench is a series of five modular and adaptive benches designed to resist any one, fixed layout. Rhizomatic and anarchic, it can be arranged to define a wide range of configurations, each prompting or supporting different kinds of interactions among people. As such, Colony/Bench highlights and activates the relationship between spatial conditions and social dynamics. It is fabricated out of deconstructed hollow-core doors, the result of research into D.I.Y. approaches to building as well as the adaptive re-use of materials not typically used in furniture making or design.
